The problem occurs because Freehand software is incompatible with the latest operating system. Luckily for us, there is a solution for this problem, you just have to download this file and place it on Hard Drive / Library / Application Support / Macromedia / and ready, the lifelong Freehand will work like a charm.

A work to blow your mind!

A work to blow your mind!

Dec 20

A few years ago (1998) I saw an exposition in the Columbus Museum of Art that blew my mind! I went to see Dale Chihuly‘s colored-glass “chandeliers” created to be installed over the canals of Venice. Those peaces contain nearly 2,500 individual parts and took a team of 14 people more than 10 days to assemble it. Together, the 11 chandeliers weight more than 5 tons.

Dale Chihuly was born in Tacoma, Washington, in 1941 and began working with glass in the early 1960s at the University of Wisconsin and at the Rhode Island School of Design. Chihuly furthered his artistic explorations after 1968 when he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to become the first American glassblower to work for the renowned Venini Factory in Murano, Venice. Chihuly was most impressed by the Italian method of blowing glass in a team — each person responsible for a set of synchronizes duties under the direction of the maestro. This collaborative approach became the foundation of the Pilchuck Glass School, which Chihuly co-founded in Seattle in 1971.

Since that exhibition in Ohio, I saw his work in a hotel in Bahamas and also in front of the casino in Monaco. If you have the opportunity to see his work, I recommend it! It’ll take your breath away!

Google’s eBookstore Launches

Google’s eBookstore Launches

Dec 07

Google, the Internet search leader opened its long-awaited electronic book store on Monday (Google Editions), competing against Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Apple and further accelerating the shift of book distribution from brick-and-mortar stores to the Web.

It’s the latest twist in a tumultuous new chapter for the book industry, one that will challenge traditional book retailers’ ability to adapt and avoid the fate of music and video retailers that have been beaten by digital competition in the past five years.

Unlike Amazon or Apple Inc., Google Inc.’s entry is giving independent retailers a way to keep up with the times.

Google is allowing merchants to sell its inventory of 3 million electronic books through their own sites and bring in more money as they scramble to adjust to the rising popularity of e-readers such as Amazon’s Kindle and computer tablets such as Apple’s iPad.

More than 4,000 publishers, including large trade book companies like Random House, Simon & Schuster and Macmillan, have made books available for sale through Google, many at prices that are identical to those of other e-bookstores.

Apple released the iOS 4.2 yesterday for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, bringing iOS 4 features to the iPad for the first time.

iOS 4.2 mobile system

Apple announced that iOS 4.2, the latest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, is available today for download for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. iOS 4.2 brings over 100 new features from iOS 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2 to iPad including Multitasking, Folders, Unified Inbox, Game Center, AirPlay and AirPrint.

“iOS 4.2 makes the iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Once again, the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit.”

Apple also announced that its Find My iPhone feature designed to assist users with locating lost iOS devices is now available to all users of Apple’s current-generation iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch free of charge. The feature had previously required a paid MobileMe subscription.

Macworld also reportsthat an update for the new Apple TV arrived yesterday as iOS 4.1, enabling AirPlay functionality and VoiceOver.

iPhone/iPad Integration With Photoshop?

iPhone/iPad Integration With Photoshop?

Nov 15

For several months, Adobe has been thinking about how it can involve the iPad and other tablet devices in the workflows of Photoshop users, asking users for feedback on what sorts of capabilities they might like to see.

Building on that feedback, the company has now taken its first steps in that direction, as evidenced by a pair of brief demos at last week’s Adobe MAX conference in which Adobe Chief Technology Officer Kevin Lynch showed off the company’s content-aware fill tool running on a Samsung Galaxy Tab and a color-mixing paint palette application running on an iPad.

Adobe’s John Nack has also noted that the company’s designers have begun mocking up other tools that could allow the iPhone and iPad to serve as extensions of Photoshop running on a desktop or notebook computer.

In a nutshell, you get:

groups of task-based tools & commands (e.g. all your photography/retouching tools & buttons on one page, or all your painting ones, 3D ones, etc.)
interactive, task-based tutorials that drive Photoshop, helping you get things done

Among the ideas presented in a PDF summary of the team’s efforts are custom toolsets accessible by tapping on a companion iPhone application, tutorials with tool accelerators to help quickly walk users through certain tasks, and companion iPad applications housing many of the commonly-used tools for easy access while also allowing for limited image editing (such as liquifying, painting, and drawing) using the multi-touch interface.

All of these latter concepts appear to simply be mockups at this point, but Adobe is clearly thinking about how best to take advantage of multi-touch functionality to enhance the Photoshop’s functionality without attempting to replicate a full Photoshop experience directly on the touch device without the precision and power available on a traditional desktop or notebook.
